Feature: Band To Watch - Freedom Fry plus 'Friends + Enemies' EP stream

Article by Stephen Wake

Freedom Fry are an LA based duo comprising of Parisian born Marie Seyrat and Michigan native Bruce Driscoll who conjure up subtle electronic baroque-pop vibes with crystal clear vocals and compare themselves to the likes of The High Llamas, Tahiti 80, The Divine Comedy etc.
Seyrat initially pursued a career in fashion and styling where she did PR for Gucci and dressed the likes of Sharon Stone. Driscoll started in his teens in the music industry as a producer and touring musician. He was on the road extensively, playing live with James Iha and Ivy and sharing bills with Stars, Cake, and Tahiti 80. The two started recording together within months of their meeting in 2011.

The 'Friends and Enemies EP' is the fifth recorded release by the duo and is a catchy trilogy of electronic pop which will fit very nicely into your party mix or on the car stereo for a quick trip to the shops and back.

Freedom Fry's,  'Friends And Enemies EP' will be released digitally in the UK on July 29th , 2013. Currently available to stream via Soundcloud below.

No Middle Name - 'Another Season' (Croft's Remix)

The Title Sequence || Website

It was only a matter of time before David Bailey's band mate Alex Crofts from The Title Sequence did a saucy little remix of his friend's first single 'Another Season' from his solo project No Middle Name, wasn't it? Well played sirs, it's pretty damn good!

Video: No Middle Name -' Another Season'

No Middle Name is the  project of David Bailey (one half of Indie Pop/Electronica duo The Title Sequence). With the opportunity to debut his creative side, Bailey's first single 'Another Season' - taken from his forthcoming album - is accompanied by a slightly peculiar yet thoroughly lovable animated music video .

Tenderly crafted by the man himself from no experience, a low-budget scanner and a pad of paper, Bailey's revealing himself as a man of many talents and has made a video that fits perfectly with 'Another Season's' dream-pop/synth-laden sound, supported by the delicate vocals of Lindsay West.

'Another Season'  is out on the 8th of July via Mollusc records.

Single Review: Lolo - 'Weapon For Saturday'

Originally from Tennessee but currently based in Brooklyn, NY, meet 25 year old Lolo and her feisty attitude-fuelled single 'Weapon For Saturday'. Recorded in LA and co-produced by Mark Batson (Dr. Dre/Eminem) you'll be sorely disappointed if you're expecting some sort of hip hop/ rap number. Instead this is more trip-hop with a dramatic, surging, cinematic appeal to it.

With lyrics that are boldly self assured, overwhelming synth, sexy, sassy, guitar riffs and the fearless, self assured and powerful tone to Lolo's vocal range, Lolo is a pleasant diversion from the shy pop of your standard mainstream, female singer songwriter and we can't wait to hear more from her.

Free Download: Marika Hackman - 'Bath Is Black' (Hackman Remix)

UK Dance Producer Hackman may be a new discovery for us, but over the past few years he has found fans in the form of familiar names such as Nick Grimshaw , Mary Anne Hobbs and Skream. In light of singer-songwriter and Hackman's sister, Marika Hackman's release of  her new single 'Bath Is Black' ,Hackman has  remixed the track and made the remix available for free download. The added chilled, electronic twist trickles through the original working keeping Marika's distinctive vocals but cancelling out the majority of the original airy, psychedelic-folk feel and replacing it with an underbelly of laziness and sensibility in its electronic and bass lines.

Single Review: Spring Offensive - 'Speak' + Live Performance Video shot by Sam King.

'Speak' is the new offering from Oxford five-piece Spring Offensive.  Self  produced and written in a remote cottage in Wales, 'Speak' is about introversion, and a quest for isolation. Lyrically, the track depicts a story where the narrator favours being emotionally shut off rather than having to embrace confrontation. Perhaps this theme of melancholy and inner turmoil is reflected and finds an outlet within the repetitive hypnotic driving loop and clattering rhythm that the song possesses.

The track comes accompanied by a live performance video shot by Sam King in a desolate and cavernous setting of one of the UK'S rare Racket Courts.  Check out the video and follow the specified link at the bottom of the page if you fancy receiving a free download of the tune.
